Australia

This work was painted during the isolation period caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The overall shape of the white cells resembles the map of Australia and Nuova Zelanda—lands distant and mysterious to me. Despite satellite images and the fact that I have relatives living there, the journey to reach them by plane remains an unknown. The coronavirus has altered our psychology: we’ve become more divided within ourselves, burdened by uncertainty and an acute sense of fragility. Australia reminds me that no matter how vast the world is and how faraway some places may seem, in our human vulnerability we are all deeply interconnected.
